WHAT WE DID:
The Eastern Aberdeen Association (EAA) is a regional community of farmers spanning 23 states – from Illinois to Florida to Maine. The group had contracted with a vendor years back that was a partner of the American Aberdeen Association. However, the company only partly fulfilled the asks, never trained the team on how to edit the website, and left them in a lurch.
They called me and asked for help. We were originally going to migrate the site – as is – that had previously been developed, but the files provided by the previous agency were empty. So, we had to start from scratch.
Required functionality included events, a members list, and classifieds. Future functionality to allow for on-site advertising was also a part of the development.
I wanted to maintain the integrity of the EAA logo, because the team felt very strongly about how it represented the association. They also wanted me to use their imagery, so the sourcing of some of the images you see proved pretty difficult at times. Farmers don’t take many pictures, it seems, and the ones they do take, aren’t of the highest resolution. So, we had to make some concessions here and there.
Overall, the end product is user-friendly, mobile-friendly, and offers the functionality the group needed. We have outlined areas for improvement and will work as a group to optimize those.
